Now we’ll consider a key aspect of that selection process, namely understanding the materials of construction and how they have a long-term impact on the performance of your industrial valve and your overall system.
But first, let’s review the importance of establishing the system parameters.
Establish the Parameters
When selecting valves for your high-pressure water hydraulic circuit, first you must consider the required purpose and function of the industrial valves. In addition, you should specify the following for the hydraulic circuit:
• Flow media • Pressure • Flow velocity
Consider the Valve Material and Potential Incompatibilities
Now that you have your system parameters in mind, let’s talk materials. Before you can select the ideal material for your valve, you must prepare for the worst. Think about what your valve will be up against while functioning day after day in your hydraulic system.
Consider whatever additives might be contained in the system media for possible incompatibilities with the valve. For instance, if the flow media contains glycol for fire resistance, then the body, seals and packing components that make up the valve need to be specified with an understanding of the possible effects that glycol may have on these valve components.
